Carrington Rally Then & Now

Primetime Video has announced its new Carrington DVD today. It features this year's 60th Anniversary event, and some of the machines on show including the fairground and model sections, but also looks back to the very first event in 1959, and other key years in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. These include main ring parades and performances by aircraft and motor cycle teams, some of the games that used to be played in the ring, including people versus steam tug-of-wars, barrel rolling by engines and pram races, as well as the legendary piano-smashing competition. Volume Seven, which completes the Lincolnshire A Century on Film series, covers the last thirty years of the Twentieth Century, a period which saw the heyday of traditional cine photography, followed by its rapid decline as video and digital systems became increasingly popular.  Another technological change was the increasing use of computers, though the latest thing in the 1970s now seems comically antiquated. Due out this October is the last DVD in our major new local history series.  Volume Seven covers the last three decades of the Twentieth Century, a period which saw the rapid decline of photographic film as video and digital systems became increasingly popular.  However, although traditional methods were waning, film had not yet been totally abandoned.  The most recent footage held by LFA dates from 1995.
